Jessica here to deliver you a dose of motivation!
It can be extremely difficult to stick to your fitness routine and nutrition regimen during the summer. Summer time is filled with long weekend holidays, backyard barbecues, vacations, outings with the kids—the list goes on and on! This time of year makes it easy to just skip a workout or indulge in something off of your diet plan. Don’t get me wrong, taking days off is not a bad thing—especially if your body is telling you that you’re working it too hard. And treating yourself to your favorite guilty pleasures every now and then is okay, too. Completely cutting out your favorite treats can lead to overindulging when you get the chance—and we definitely don’t want that. But you should never be afraid to reward yourself when you deserve it.
So why shouldn’t we just fall of the fitness wagon during the summer? After all, it is the easy way to go. You worked so hard day in and day out during the months leading up to summer, and you’re finally summer-ready! You deserve a break, right? No! All that hard work you put in during the winter and spring months to get your “summer bod” will be forgotten. Nobody likes to start over, especially when the hardest part is to do is just that—START! Summer should not be a vacation from quality exercise and nutrition—it should be just like the other seasons of the year: a time to improve. Improve yourself, improve your health, improve your overall well being. Your fitness journey does not have an end date—it is an ongoing lifestyle! Do not use summer as an excuse, use it as a motivator.
With all of that being said, I’m sure a lot of you have had slip-ups after all of the fun these last several weeks have had to offer. However, it is not too late to get back into the swing of things! Here are some tips to help reignite that fire and get you back on track!
1. Call up your bestie.
Having an accountability partner is an AWESOME way to stay on top of your goals. Plan times to take a class, go for a run, or meal prep together and you will be more likely to follow through!
2. Make a plan.
I am all about planning. I love making lists and checking tasks off as I complete them—my workouts included. Plan which classes you are going to attend each week, what at-home workouts you’re going to accomplish and what healthy you meals you and your family will have for dinner each night.
3. Try a new class.
If you have yet to try all of the classes T&J has to offer, then you are missing out! Discovering a new way to workout can be a great way to spice up your routine and fall in love with fitness all over again. Check out the class schedule to see what we offer each day of the week!
4. Look back.
“The only time you should ever look back is to see how far you’ve come.” Taking a look back at where you started could be the perfect way to remind you of all of the hard work, sacrifices and dedication you have put in to get to this point. Like I said before, no one like to go back to square one, so use your starting point to help you push even harder this summer.
5. Treat yo’self.
If treating yourself to new workout clothes or a night out with your friends is what you need to get in 5 days a week at the gym, or a whole week of sticking to your meal plan, then do it! Hard work should never go unrewarded. You earned that happy hour!
Try some of these tips and you are guaranteed to get back on track!
